Day of the Dead festival, is the day celebrated in remembrance of the departed. Usually celebrated from October 31st to November 2nd every year. From eating skulled sugar mold, preparing food to mark the festivity, dressing up, cleaning and decorating graves,  is about the Day of the Dead festival.  There is Catrina and Catrin costume contest based on the characters created by Posadas in this festival.  Dressing up is equally important part of the whole festival day. Here are few tips to dress up the right way for your remarkable Day of the Dead Festival.

Avoid using your Halloween costume while dressing your part in Day of the Dead festival. This festival is celebrated to reminisce the dead by preparing food, bringing gifts to graves etc. In short it a celebrated in a joyful way and has nothing to do with ghosts and haunting, unlike Halloween. So the top most priority while selecting your dress, do not mix it up with Halloween.

  • Black is the color:

The simple yet the age-old way to dress up for the festival where black is combined with bold accents. A plain black clothing or even a skeleton t-shirt can do justice to your look for the festivity. Sometimes even a black suit with a bold sash or plain black attire with a bold colored flower pinned to the hair/clothing can do the wonders. Usually, colors such as yellow, orange, red and green are preferred for the flowers. Even some women are inspired by costumes of La Calavera Catrina( female skeleton wearing a hat resembling the clothing of European upper middle class. One can use the above costume with some flare of color by its own such as flower stashed near the ear or over the forehead. In short, black with some spill of bold colors can be the right set of outfit for the festivity.

  • Face painting is a must:

The differentiating factor of the Day of the dead is a sugar skull as its represent death and rebirth. Decorated sugar skulls are placed on the graves of deceased as a mark of the day. Before starting to paint your face always remember to give a coat of white paint before the designing. Females can accessorize the face painting with sticky jewelry. One can paint vibrant flower petals over the face to add to their attire. To give a decorated sugar skull feeling, face painting is a must.

  • Accessorize the head:

Since dressing for the day is majorly inspired by Catrina, which is mostly about accessorizing your head. From cute flower head to huge flower hats with vibrant design to just a simple stash of the flower near the ear, are the varied options one can choose to do the head. It all about adding the flowers in the fashionable and decorative as possible to give a bold look.

 

  • Comfortable footwear:

Another most important thing to be taken care while picking your outfit is to match it with a comfortable pair of footwear. Since there is a lot of walking involved during the festivity it is best advised to avoid those heels and put on something comfortable. In order enjoy all the activities of the day to the fullest it is highly essential to match ur outfit with the most comfortable pair so that you stay fashionable but comfortable.
